Jhené Aiko, The Weeknd and other musical artists of today have at some point mentioned the use of magic mushrooms aka shrooms in their chill beats. Jhené even has a song on the album Trip, that I love by the way, and the song is called Psilocybin.
As a result, I have now received this question from a few moms and dads at my support groups on the safety of consuming psilocybin while breastfeeding. I’m honored that you have chosen me for your education needs in confidence!
Usually eaten fresh, dried or brewed in a tea. Some parents are turning to these hallucinogenic teas as a way to fight the effects of crippling perinatal anxiety and mood disorders which are on the rise as 1 in 9 moms and 50% of dads struggle with PMADs.
Magic mushrooms have not been formally studied for use during breastfeeding. If you are taking magic mushrooms while breastfeeding and you suspect that the baby has unusual symptoms (such as trouble feeding, sleeping, or breathing) be sure to talk to a trusted healthcare provider immediately.
Until we have more information, it’s likely best to abstain while breastfeeding. I’m not judging if you do, I would like you and your baby to be as safe as possible.
