Melanin Milk SD Collective was founded in July 2024 to bring together a supportive community of skilled, like-minded lactation consultants and birth workers. Handpicked by Chardá, our collective offers high-quality postpartum doula care, childbirth education, and lactation support to families in San Diego County—and beyond.
Each associate is carefully vetted and supported as both a trusted collaborator and independent business owner. Through our network, we share client referrals, offer mentorship, and provide holistic culturally centered, inclusive and affiriming support—from childcare and mental health resources to individually tailored infant feeding guidance.

Latrice Reid, IBCLC (she/her)
Latrice is an IBCLC and Postpartum Doula whose journey began with a deep commitment to supporting birthing people, particularly in reproductive and maternal mental health. This passion led her to become an international board certified lactation consultant in July 2023.
For seven years, she served as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor at WIC, and over the past nine years, she has had the privilege of assisting nearly 900 families in San Diego County. She has also contributed to the health of NICU babies by donating breast milk to Mother’s Milk Bank San Jose.
As a mother, educator, and advocate, Latrice is honored to be part of the movement diversifying lactation support. She has been working in the Melanin Milk SD Collective since March 2024. Latrice also serves as the director of her non-profit organization, Mended and Made Well.

Roxanna Chávez, IBCLC, CBE (she/her/ella)
Roxanna Chávez is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Roxanna earned her Bachelor's Degree of Science in Clinical Nutrition from UC Davis in 2017. She has been practicing as an IBCLC for over two years and has over 7 years of experience working with expecting, postpartum, and chest/breastfeeding families. Roxanna found her true calling in the field of lactation and is passionate about helping families meet their feeding goals, however that may look like.
Roxanna’s own breastfeeding journey with her first born fueled her passion for providing empathetic care during such a special journey in life.When she is not providing lactation support and education, you can find Roxanna somewhere outdoors. Roxanna loves to cook, eat, dance, hike, walk, and spend quality time with her two children.
She has been working in the Melanin Milk SD Collective since July 2024. Roxanna is the owner of The Milky Road Lactation.

Chardá Bell, IBCLC, CBE, CD (she/her)
Chardá Bell is the creator of the Melanin Milk SD collective. She is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Doula, Spinning Babies Certified Parent Educator. Marrying her love of birth with lactation, her clinical interest is in the influence of labor and delivery factors, including fetal positioning as well as social determinants of health that may impact initiation and duration of breastfeeding success. When she is not immersed in all things lactation, she likes dancing, cooking, paint & sips, family time, vacations, going down Wikipedia wormholes and eating good food. volunteers her time to causes related to human milk, Black maternal child health & reproductive justice as well as those that serve to increase diversity in the lactation field. Whether she is helping new families navigate the early days or teaching birthworkers and parents, she is passionate about connecting with other people and encouraging them to spread their knowledge to others. Chardá resides in Southeast San Diego, with her partner Dr. Tré Watkins and their blended family of six kids.

Kaila Matthews, MS Ed., CD, LEC, BA, Student Midwife (she/her)
Kaila is a pathway 3 IBLCE candidate mentee of Chardá Bell, IBCLC / Melanin Milk SD. You may see her accompanying Chardá on visits. You have the choice to opt out of mentee & intern shadowing on any or all visits.
Kaila Matthews is a native of Memphis, Tennessee, wife, mother of 2, 10+ year educator, and owner of WhatTheDoula, LLC. As a certified Doula, she increases awareness amongst women about maternal healthcare and targets minority women and their unique birthing experience through Birth, Postpartum, and Lactation support. She is a certified yoga instructor and uses her knowledge of movement and breath to help birthing people relax and meet pain in a manageable way. Kaila has certified and cross-trained to grow her skill set and ability to support the medical and non-medical side of birth as she bridges into Midwifery as a current student Midwife. Kaila enjoys mentoring local college students, gardening, and taking local dance classes to stay fit!​
